The Jane Austen Festival

I first attended the Jane Austen festival in 2019 and then again 2022. In 2023 I was cordially invited to be one of the festival’s Photographers. Heritage is something I hold in very high esteem and that does indeed include our literary masters.

At the very pinnacle of that sits Jane Austen, born in Steventon rectory in Hampshire on 16th December 1775. Jane, unbeknown to her, was producing work that would go on to inspire millions and lay the path for a whole genre of media in the 21st century. In 2025 we will be celebrating 250 years since Jane was born so keep your eyes peeled. For anyone interested in a more detailed look at her life there is a very good documentary by Dr Lucy Worsley on BBC iPlayer. But let’s face it most of you will have definitely seen that and more besides!

The Jane Austen festival occurs every year in the stunning Georgian city of Bath, lasting 10 days, it attracts people from all over the world. I have personally spoken to people from Germany, America, Canada, France, and beyond. Every year I am in awe at the level of skills, dedication and enthusiasm by those attending, from the seasoned professionals to those simply there for a damn good time. It’s a truly fantastic atmosphere between likeminded people and those simply curious about the world of Austen.

In 2024 we are expecting over 700+ promenaders, which will start at The Holburne Museum at 11:00 on Saturday 14th September and will truly be a spectacular sight. Over the course of the festival we will see dancing events, walking tours, croquet, regency breakfasts, costume workshops and much much more with over 140 events planned.

For now I will let the work I have produced in previous years do the talking for me and tell you just how fantastic our attendees are, hats off to you all!
